On the 9th of November, my church, SIBKL (Sidang Injil Borneo Kuala Lumpur) celebrated its 20th anniversary. To mark the occasion, we had a carnival at our church's community center, SMCC (Sunway Mas Community Center). We invited the residents in the area to join us for a time of food and fun.
So my day started by picking up my 2 friends, Lijin and Iva. After reaching, we went to the carpark decks within the center. These decks had been transformed into a huge food court. The stalls were manned by different cell groups. Essentially, the food sold could be called home-cooked. From Hokkien Mee to Dry Curry Laksa to Mee Rebus and Southern Fried Chicken, all sorts of delicacies were on sale. To ensure that we tried most of the dishes, my friends and I bought and shared the food. We managed to try, Ah Chew's Char Kuey Teow, Asam Laksa, Dry Curry Mee, Southern Fried Chicken, Penang Nasi Kandar and Sarawak Laksa. The food were pretty good.
After that, we went up to the Auditorium at level 3. Outside, merchandise were sold. I bought 2 CDs and a t-shirt. At 12, the doors to the Auditorium opened and we took out seats and got ready to watch my church's very own talent show! It was called SIBKL's got talent. My pals and I only managed to watch 2 acts as after that we had to rush off to help out at the drinks booth. This was located next to the communal field, which had been turned into an area of game booths and art competitions. There were also 2 inflatable castles.
The drink stall was hot and humid, but it was enjoyable work. Handing chilled drinks to thirsty and dehydrated people in a quick and efficient manner was fun. My cell group was supposed to work the 1-2pm shift; however, most of us stayed back to continue helping. After our official shift was over, I ran upstairs in the community center to where a cake decorating competition, called Cake Wars, was being held. Beautiful cakes had been decorated and designed. I bought some of the cakes and shared them with my friends who were still in the booth downstairs. To get down, I took the lifts. When I entered the lift car, guess who was inside? It was none other than Ps Lee Choo! She's the head pastor's wife and also one of the pastors of the church. It was a pleasure to meet her personally. As SIBKL has more than 1000 regular attendees, getting to meet a pastor personally and alone is a rarity.
At the end of the day, my friends and I helped to take down some of the decorations. It was a truly memorable day. One that I will not forget soon. I also made a video to commemorate the event. You can check it out below. It's about 18.5 minutes.
So that's all for now!
Dennis.
